Wink! I Took Your Picture!

So you're walking down the street and a cute guy winks at you.  OK, a little creepy but at least he was cute. He just took a picture of you.

The latest Google Glass software update now includes an app called Wink, and yes, it can take your picture. Google Glass, you may recall, is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display that is being developed by Google.

The company's actually not the first to do this. "Users had the capability to wink and take a photo months ago," Kirsten Korosec reports at smartplanet.com. She notes that developer Mike DiGiovanni released a pure Android source code called Winky in May. But it wasn't part of the Google Glass software.

The app may be developed to do more than take photos, Korosec says, including wink at the meter riding in a cab and pay, or, and I like this, wink at a pair of shoes in a shop window and your size will be sent to you.  

But where's the privacy in all this?  Many see it as an invasion of one of our last rights to our bodies and personhood.  I guess you could get a little crazy about this, but, like all fads, it will probably die out soon.  Remember the Harlem Shake?

Social Media Replacing Human Contact? Nah

I used to think my son only talked to his "girlfriend" (did I mention he'll be 12 in June?) in school.  Then I happened to walk by his computer and saw her on his screen.  They Skype.  About three hours a day.  Then I got it.  It's real.  Kids mostly communicate electronically these days. But Joe McKendrick at smartplanet.com believes there are reasons social media won't completely replace face-to-face interactions.  For one, there's less distraction.  If you're sitting at your computer, you're scanning for emails or googling or watching the news, in addition to talking to someone.  When you're actually with someone, it's harder to do this -- though, Joe, are you living on Mars? Be Humble. Your Employees May Work Harder

You wouldn't know it from our current crook- er - commander-in-chief but it pays to be humble , new research is showing. It’s good to be humble when you’re the boss – as long as that’s what your employees expect, according to newswise.com.
