Men's Deep Voices Attract Women, Who Then Fear They'll Cheat

Admit it. That low sexy voice gets you every time.

And it's just been proved by a new study that's found that "men with low-pitched voices have an advantage in attracting women, even though women know they’re not likely to stick around for long," according to newswise.com.

But for the men, maybe not so much, really. While researchers at McMaster University discovered that women were more attracted to men with masculine voices, at least for short-term relationships, "those men were also seen as more likely to cheat and unsuitable for a longer relationship, such as marriage."

"The sound of someone’s voice can affect how we think of them,” newswise.com quotes Jillian O’Connor, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour and lead author of the study.

Isn't it always a shock when a woman with a tight, whiny voice turns out to be a lookalike for Sofia Vergara? Or, a man with a deep, booming voice is really short, fat and balding (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

“Until now, it’s been unclear why women would like the voices of men who might cheat," O'Connor tells newswise.com. "But we found that the more women thought these men would cheat, the more they were attracted to them for a brief relationship when they are less worried about fidelity.”

But there may be something evolutionary to it all.

“... These perceptions of future sexual infidelity may be adaptive,” David Feinberg, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour, explains to newswise.com. "The consequences of infidelity are very high whether it is emotional or financial and this research suggests that humans have evolved as a protection mechanism to avoid long-term partners who may cheat."

So are they saying, beware the voice?  I guess that's where it's leading.

  1. Deb - For some reason in the morning I have a very deep radio announcer sounding voice. All for nothing though as I'm out jogging before sun up. Better luck maybe staying home and jogging in the evening?
